Meta AI Overview
The newly launched Meta AI has been ruling the hearts of many AI enthusiasts and performing exceptionally well compared with many of the top AI chatbots.
Released by Meta across its suite of apps, Meta AI offers a diverse number of ways for users to access the tool. This tool is a close competitor to others given its free access, AI image generation abilities, access to live real-time information, and accessibility across popular apps.
Our statistical survey found that Meta AI has reached the 40 million daily users mark ever since its launch in April 2024.
Bonus: When compared with the popular ChatGPT, Meta AI performed much better than expected. This proves to be a testament to how good this new AI from Meta is and how far it can go with further improvements.
Copilot Overview
This AI tool combines two of the top tech superpowers—Microsoft and Open AI. Based on the Microsoft Prometheus and GPT 4 AI models, Microsoft’s Copilot is impressive yet pretty much under the rocks.
When asked about Copilot to people around, very few people knew about it, as opposed to Meta AI, which many people recognize instantly.
However, as compared to Meta AI, Microsoft’s Copilot offers a lot more features like AI sound generation, plugin usage, AI image generation with DALL E 3, accessing the internet, and taking audio and images as a prompt.
Uncovering Differences Between Meta AI And Microsoft Copilot in Detail
While the overview of the two tools does not really provide a clear winner between Meta AI and Copilot, the side-by-side comparison of their commonly used features shows distinct differences from this upcoming section.
For the multitude of tests we conducted, Microsoft Copilot has already performed exceptionally well in our Microsoft Copilot vs ChatGPT post. It will be interesting to know what the result unfolds when compared against this new AI from Meta.
Note: Since both tools are available to use in many ways, I decided to base this comparison on the web version of both AI tools, as it is the most commonly accessible way to use them both.
1. Accessibility
Starting with a detailed comparison, here’s how users can use Meta AI or Copilot in more than one way:
Meta AI
Based on the most advanced AI model from Meta, Llama 3.1, Meta AI has been changing how people use AI, not just individually but interacting with each other in group chats.
Conversations have become more free-flowing without the user leaving the app to search for something, unlike Microsoft’s Copilot or other AI chat assistants.
Users can use Meta AI with:
- Meta AI website
Copilot
While Meta AI is super flexible, Microsoft’s Copilot can be used in many ways, but in different ways. It is one of the most advanced AI assistant tools that has been offering the most advanced features without charging a buck.
You can use the Microsft Copilot in:
- The web version
- Mobile/desktop apps
- With the Bing search engine,
- Inside the Microsoft office and the Microsoft 365 online suite.
To start using Copilot, you can visit the official Copilot website, download the app on your device, or if have access to the Microsoft 365 suite, which has Copilot to use inside MS Excel, MS Word, and other popular Microsoft websites.
Microsoft Copilot is easily accessible to a large number of people who rely on Microsoft devices and use Microsoft services.
Verdict:
Compared to Copilot, Meta AI provides more accessible ways to use the AI features.
2. User Interface
Next, I compared the user interfaces of both these AI tools. Though both tools may be expected to offer similar experiences, they do not.
Meta AI User Experience
Meta AI is one of the most versatile AI tools. Users can use it in many ways, each offering a fulfilling user experience. Users get a simplified experience without complex structures and layouts for the web version in contention.
In fact, since the tool is comparatively new, without any plugins or add-on features, it provides a very direct way to start using the Meta AI services.
To use Meta AI to generate results, you can simply enter the text inside the white box at the bottom of the screen. On the left, you can see your old conversations with Meta AI to visit later.
Apart from this, while using WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook, you can interact with Meta AI by tagging it as ‘@metaAI’ and asking for your prompt right inside the chat box. The highlight is that you can also launch Meta AI inside group conversations too!
Copilot
Compared with Meta AI, Copilot can be complex for beginners to understand at first. But after regular use and understanding the functionality of each feature, you can get a hang of it. It’s not that complex to use.
Similar to Meta AI and other chat assistants, Copilot offers the familiar structure with prompt insertion bar at the bottom, and results generated in a conversational style.
Verdict:
Since both AI chatbots offer equally simplistic user interfaces, there’s no better choice here and it is a tie.
3. Feature Availability
Next, exploring the features that are offered by both, Meta AI turns out to be lacking in this aspect.
Meta AI feature availability:
Apart from the basic chat assistant features, Meta AI currently does not offer any plugins to get images or voice messages as a prompt like Copilot. Still, Meta AI offers basic, useful features that can enhance the user’s experience. Here’s how:
- Bookmark result option
- Instant sharing option
- Generated response feedback buttons
- AI Image generation
- Internet access
Microsoft Copilot:
Copilot stands above in this section as it includes bonus features apart from the basic AI chat assistant features. It offers free access to various plugins like:
- Instacart
- Kayak
- Klarna
- OpenTable
- Phone (to connect your phone)
- Shop
- Suno
Copilot also offers 3 modes using which the user can get the closest accurate response to their search query by being – more creative, more balanced, more precise. However, in the recent update it seemed like they removed the feature.
But, when I logged into the Copilot website the next day, the feature was available.
From the video, you can see how Copilot also shares interactive responses that add up to its features.
Verdict:
Providing a feature-rich experience, Copilot turns out to provide better usability than what Meta can currently.
4. AI Language Model Potential
Looking at the base of all the operations like response accuracy, AI image generation, understanding complex prompts etc, both AI chat assistants have powerful AI language models under the hood.
To gauge the AI model’s potential, I referred to the official performance tests submitted by both Meta and Copilot during the launch.
Meta AI
Based on the benchmark reports acquired by Meta AI, the AI model has beaten or has gotten very close to the top AI models of 2024, like – GPT4o, and Claude Sonnet 3.5. Refer to the image below:
What does this mean?
This means that Meta AI, though launched recently in April 2024, has turned out to be a prominent AI language model available for free. Utility-wise, Meta AI can:
- Interpret and generate code
- Calculate mathematical problems
- Solve reasoning-related problems
- Generate AI images
- Edit and animate AI-generated images
To understand more and get into the details of the model performance, you can have a look at the Llama 3 evaluation details shared on Github.
Copilot
Copilot does not use its own AI language model and, hence, has not released any benchmark tests to help understand its numerical performance. However, the GPT-4 language model access from OpenAI provides an unmatched free experience.
Through this, Copilot can:
- Generate AI images
- Share responses in 3 conversation styles
- Understand and write code
- Generate long-form content
- Access the internet
Verdict:
Meta AI, with its recent benchmark tests, proves to perform equivalent or at times, better than GPT-based Copilot.
5. AI Image Generation Ability
Next, one of the most fun feature to use for both Meta AI and Copilot is its AI image generation ability. Both tools can smoothly generate AI-images based on simple text prompts inserted.
To check the potential of both these AI assistant, I ran the same prompt with both to check out their accuracy of describing the prompt, image quality and generation speed.
Prompt inserted for generating AI image:
“Imagine a tasty double meat burger with lettuce, tomatoes, avocado with a side of fries and a soft drink. It’s plated beautifully and in a fancy way”
Meta AI Image generation:
Meta AI nailed the image generation out of the park and generated a very accurate image with high quality and details.
Since Meta AI is still new and offers free AI image generation, the image generation speed is quite fast. The image generated by Meta AI look more real and instantly made me crave for some burgers.
Meta AI generated Image:
Copilot Image generation
Next, powered by DALL E 3, Copilot did a fantastic job of generating a very realistic-looking image and included each element required by the prompt.
However, Copilot needs a precise prompt inserted. For example, I inserted the prompt, “Imagine a tasty double-meat burger with lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, a side of fries, and a soft drink. It’s plated beautifully and in a fancy way.”
In the first attempt, Copilot just acknowledged my prompt but as I added the words, “generate an image..” it started to generate an image instantly. The generated image was quite impressive and offered many options to edit the image further.
Copilot Generated Image:
Verdict:
Both Meta AI and Copilot have generated impressive-looking images with high quality and relevance tot eh prompt.
6. Pricing And Free Access
The price you have to pay to use Meta or Copilot is – $0. That’s correct; both these tools offer free plans that can help you without hampering your experience.
There are a few limitations to using the tools currently, but they are not so critical that they can limit your usage.
Fun fact: The above tests I have shared are all done using the Meta AI and Copilot free versions.
Meta AI
Meta AI offers its suite of tools for AI assistance at no cost. Ever since its launch, Meta AI has not charged for its services. However, given the rising operating costs of AI models, you can expect Meta AI to launch subscription plans soon.
Copilot
Copilot has been one the first AI tools to have been completely free and offer premium features that other AI chat assistants like ChatGPT usually charge for.
Although Copilot has a subscription plan that you can subscribe to for $20/month.
Check out more features that you get by subscribing to the Copilot Pro plan:
Features | Microsoft Copilot | Microsoft Copilot Pro |
---|---|---|
Price | Free to use | Charged at $20/month |
AI-powered results using text, voice and images | ✔️ | ✔️ |
GPT-Turbo Priority access | ❌ | ✔️ |
Use plugins | ✔️ | ✔️ |
Faster AI image generation | 15/day | 100/day |
Using Copilot with Mircosoft 365 apps | ❌ | ✔️ |
Did you know💡– The ChatGPT free version only allows 2 AI image generations powered by DALL E 3. However, while using Copilot, that limit does not exist. It only limits the image generation speed after 15 daily free AI image generations.
Verdict:
Meta AI and Copilot offer free access to the best of their features without limitations, making this section a tie.
7. Real-time Data Accuracy
To test how accurate these AI chat assistants are at covering real-time data, I asked both chat assistants a common question.
From this, I understood how they provide real-time information and how AI assistants source their responses to real-time prompts.
Prompt inserted for checking real-time data accuracy:
“The iPhone 16 was launched recently; what all do you know about it?”
Meta AI
Meta AI uses Google to search for any real-time information that is asked. For the above-asked prompt, Meta AI shared a pretty accurate response regarding the latest iPhone 16 and explained the new device’s features.
Furthermore, when required to know more about the generated result, Meta AI also offered to show sources that it sourced its information from. But, Meta AI only shares a text as an answer, without any visual elements.
Copilot
Microsoft Copilot shared an even better response for the prompt, by sourcing the information directly from the Apple website for giving description about the latest iPhone.
This ensures the data to highly accurate, having taken directly from the origin. While this was one test I conducted, this was repeatedly seen in the other prompts I entered in Copilot.
Copilot also shared additional articles that can share more information on the iPhone 16 and the latest news related to it.
Verdict:
Copilot performed better in this aspect by providing more resources to the result and providing helpful guides.
How To Choose The Right AI Between Meta And Copilot?
Meta AI and Copilot, both have different kinds of users. Meta is more for directed to be used for an informal purpose, whereas Copilot and its features indicated it to be a better fit for professional tasks.
In order to select the better AI among the two, I evaluated both on the below parameters:
- Response accuracy
- User experience
- Integration abilities
- Ease of use
- Features and their usage limits
- Future expected updates.
Match your requirements around the above-shared pointers to select the better one among the two.
Conclusion: Meta AI Is Undoubtedly Better Than Copilot!
Based on the comparison, Meta AI emerges as a better choice in terms of usability across common grounds. It is more accessible and can serve a general purpose for the common user.
With its new AI and limited features, Meta AI has left a lot of room for improvement. Still, it has shown some bright signs of potential to beat paid AI chat assistants.
Copilot on the other hand, has not received any major updates since a while and is based on the old GPT-4 model.
