Safari is the second most used web browser globally, as 1 out of 5 people worldwide use it. Safari, being Apple Inc.’s baby, is the most popular browser among Apple users.

The browser displayed a decrease of over 1.3% in its market share compared to 2023 when the browser’s market share owned by the Safari browser was recorded to be 19.9%.

Microsoft Edge was the primary browser used by internet users globally until Google Chrome was launched in 2008.

The market share of Microsoft Edge grew from 4.12% in 2022 to 4.96% in 2024.

The browser is heavily used in America and Russia for approximately 6 to 5.5 hours daily.

People prefer a seamless integration when it comes to browsers.  Many people worldwide don’t have a hybrid ecosystem, and Chrome fits it well, making it more accessible via all devices. 

On the other hand, people who are deep into the Apple ecosystem are the ones who will go for a safari, but the majority will go for chrome

Google Chrome rules the Desktop Browser Market Share with 63.18% of the market share

Chrome has dominated the desktop browser market share over the past few years. However, a drop was recorded in its usage in June 2023. Its market share reached 61.16%.

Safari is the second most preferred desktop browser as of 2024, with 12.72% of the market share. 1 in 10 people using Desktop prefers to use Apple Safari. 

Other most used Desktop browsers, according to the market share, are Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Opera, and 360 Safe.

Safari plays strong when it comes to the Tablet market Share. Meanwhile, Chrome owns 50.34% of the tablet browser market share. 

Most tablet owners use Apple and prefer to browse from the Safari browser.

64.07% of the mobile market share belongs to Google Chrome

Chrome rules mobile browser market share as well. Over 6 in 10 mobile users use Google Chrome to browse the internet. 

On the other hand, Safari owns 25.78% of the Mobile market share worldwide. 

Surprisingly, the Samsung Internet browser stands third and owns 4.44% of the market share. 

Other mobile browsers that have gained popularity over the past few years are Opera (2%), UC browser (1.46%), and Android(0.53%).

The usage of Browsers differs from country to country and region to region. Still, Chrome tops the list here too. However, the Safari managed to steal some share of the spotlight from Chrome at some places. 

Let’s look at the browser market share in different regions worldwide. 

Over half of the browser market in the United States is owned by Google Chrome

Google Chrome holds 51.94% of the browser market share in the United States. 

Meanwhile, 29.29% of the browser market share in the country belongs to Safari. Calculating the numbers, 3 in 10 people in the United States use the Safari browser.

Microsoft Edge also has noticeable users in the United States. The browser owns 8.67% of the market share in the United States.

Nearly two-thirds of the internet users in the United Kingdom use Safari browser

Safari owns a market share of  32.48% in the United Kingdom. 

Meanwhile, half of the internet users in the United Kingdom use Google Chrome. The browser owns a market share of 49.62% in the country. 

Edge also has a decent share of users in the United Kingdom. According to Q4 of 2023, Microsoft Edge owns 9.34% of the browser market share worldwide. 

Other browsers that made it to the top 6 in the United Kingdom are Samsung Internet, Firefox, and Opera, with a market share of 3.54%, 2.24%, and 1.56%., respectively.

Google Chrome has a market share of 51.52% in the Chinese browser market

Chrome dominates the Chinese browser market. 

Safari stood second with a market share of  12.84%, while Microsoft Edge came in third with a market share of 8.87%. 

Chinese browser users cited using Chrome as it is simpler and faster than other browsers.

Chrome vs Safari (Battle Of Two Top Players)

Chrome owns the highest browser market share in the South American region. At the same time,  Safari owns 8.04% of the browser market share in the region. 

Further, Google Chrome has a 73.07% market share of browsers in Africa. The second most preferred browser in the region is Safari browser, with a market share of 9.41%.  

On the other hand, Chrome owns just 52.7% of the browser market share in the North American region. It is the lowest compared to the shares owned by Chrome in different regions of the world. 

Safari owns 32.54% of the browser market share in the Oceania region. This is the highest market share owned by Safari compared to that in other regions. Chrome owns just 52.94% of the market share in this region.
