Unlike other platforms, TikTok actually pays you for your videos through the creator’s fund and the TikTok Creativity Program.

On average, with every 1,000 views, you are paid 2-4 cents. If your video hits one million views on TikTok, you get approximately $30-$40.

In order to get paid, you must be eligible to apply for the creator’s fund. One of its primary rules is for the account holder to be 18 years old and above.

Furthermore, you can only apply if your account has 10,000 or more followers.

TikTok has discontinued the “TikTok Creators Fund” for new registrations but runs the “Creativity Program” that generates 20X more income.

You can head over to my TikTok earnings article, where I have broken down how much TikTok pays, how influencers earn on TikTok, and case studies of different influencers!

However, TikTok has given birth to some of the well-known influencers like the D’Amelio sisters, Addison Rae, Khaby Lame, and more. Most TikTok influencers do not rely on the creator’s fund to be their only source of income.

For sponsored posts, nano influencers can charge $5-$25 per post.

On the other hand, micro-influencers can charge $20-$125 and $125-$1000 for macroinfluencers.

Moreover, brand collaborations can also help you generate anywhere between $50k-$150k approximately.

Twitter, now known as X, is a leading platform with 450 million plus active users.

Previously, Twitter didn’t allow any option to earn directly. Influencers could opt for different earning methods, such as brand endorsement, collaborations, PR, and more.

However, now influencers can monetize their account by turning on ad revenue sharing. Twitter will directly pay influencers to show ads on their account. Another monetization way is turning on subscriptions to influencers.

Statista says Twitter influencers earn around $56.3 per tweet (nano influencers: 1-5000 followers).

On the other hand, users with 25,000+ followers earn anywhere around $125.78 per tweet.

Let’s use The Influencer Marketing Hub Twitter money calculator to check the estimated earnings per tweet.

Twitter Money Calculator

Since Justin Bieber is a celebrity, his estimated earnings can be this. However, it is vital to note here that this is not their actual earnings. Instead, the calculator shows the potential earnings.

Now, let’s take another example of another person on Twitter.

I took the example of Meghna Kaur (@shetroublemaker). She is well-known for her lifestyle influence.

Being one of the biggest social media platforms, Facebook has 3.03 billion users globally. Due to this large audience, influencers have the perfect opportunity to reach the right audience at the right time.

According to Statista, small influencers with medium followers can earn around $170-$266 per post on Facebook.

Again, various factors (as mentioned above) play a crucial role in determining how much they will be paid for each post.

These influencers on Facebook can earn from sponsored posts, live videos promoting products, merch, affiliate marketing, and more.

Surveys On How Much Do Influencers Make

Since you are here to learn about influencers’ potential earnings, I have incorporated a few surveys and data that will help you understand them better.

I ran various nano to micro-influencer accounts on different money calculators.

Note here that the amounts given by these money calculators are not 100% accurate earnings. Instead, it signifies the potential earnings from your account.

1. TheLeap.Co

Through TheLeap.co’s money calculator, I checked the earnings of a nano-influencer —Jill Smokler. Jill is an author, entrepreneur, blogger, and motivational speaker. Her potential earnings with followers of 9.7k are approximately between $157 –$1235 per video and up to $3,670 for digital product sales.

4. Influencer Marketing Hub

In the above section, I used Influencer Marketing Hub’s money calculator for Instagram and Twitter. However, I used its TikTok Earning Calculator to determine the average cost of how much influencers earn per post on TikTok as well.

Users with a 0.04% engagement rate and 50,000 followers will have the potential to earn between $80 –$120 per post on TikTok.

How Do Influencers Make Money? (Methods+Creator Stories)

Influencers earn through multiple sources. In fact, only a few social media platforms give direct monetization options.

Due to a lack of monetization options, they generally rely on multiple sources of income. Below are a few examples and a detailed walkthrough of these income sources for influencers.

1. Sponsored Posts

Influencers and sponsored posts go hand-in-hand. They generally curate content around paid partnerships with brands globally.

Influencers get paid to promote the products through sponsored posts, stories, and other means.

Usually, macro-influencers and celebrities are paid a hefty amount for these sponsorships.

But that doesn’t mean nano and micro-influencers cannot earn through sponsored posts. In fact, many small businesses reach out to nano and micro-influencers to promote their products.

Influencers with 10k or fewer followers can also indulge in the barter system. In this way, you get free products from the company to promote them instead of getting paid.

While you don’t directly earn money through barter, you still get free products, so it’s a win-win!

When someone posts a sponsored product, you can see “paid partnership” on the post which will help you know whether it is a sponsored post or not.

The amount earned through sponsored posts is different. The industry standard or the unspoken rule is $100 per 10,000 followers. However, the case may vary.

2. Monetization Tools

As I mentioned above, TikTok pays influencers directly through its creator’s fund and in other ways.

Besides TikTok, Facebook also gives you multiple monetization tools, wherein you can earn through in-stream ads, branded content, fan subscriptions, and subscription groups.

Now, one of the users’ most commonly asked questions is, “Does Instagram pay influencers?”

Instagram does not directly pay you like TikTok. However, it has a” bonus” feature for creators and business accounts.

Through the bonus feature, you can get paid directly through Instagram. If it doesn’t matter how many followers you have or which niche you are working on, monetizing your content through the bonus feature is possible.

You can check out the eligibility and other details by visiting the Instagram help center

Twitter influencers also have the option to earn through subscriptions. Influencers can offer subscriptions to their followers, whereas once someone subscribes, you can offer them exclusive content that will not be visible to your other followers.

You can check out the eligibility and other details by visiting the Twitter help center.

3. Affiliate Marketing

Another common way for influencers to earn through their social media presence is through affiliate marketing

Have you seen influencers on TikTok, Instagram, and other social media platforms offering personalized discounts for products?

These are likely affiliate marketing products.

Through affiliate marketing, influencers get a commission for each sale they bring to the company. The commission rates are different for each influencer. You can earn 10-30% of the sale amount on average.

Many influencers indulge in affiliate marketing with multiple brands. This way, they can earn more.

While affiliate marketing is a popular strategy used by brands worldwide, you must keep in mind that it is an ideal approach if you are aiming for sales.

On the other hand, affiliate marketing may not be the right approach if you are aiming for brand awareness.

Bonus Tip: Previously, Instagram only allowed influencers with 10,000+ followers to use the Link sticker features. Now, anyone can take advantage of this feature and embed a personalized link. So, if you are indulging in affiliate marketing, you can add personalized links to your stories through the Link sticker.

4. Merch/Products

The next secondary way that influencers earn money is by selling exclusive merchandise.

You must have seen influencers creating their own merchandise or products.

Many influencers work with sponsored posts but eventually start their own custom line of products to increase their revenue.

This is highly popular with fashion and beauty influencers, who start their own clothing line or beauty products.

One of the primary examples we can see here is Kylie Jenner. Initially starting as an influencer, she launched her cosmetic line, Kylie Cosmetics.

Kylie gained her influence through Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok and soon made it big with her amazing products and marketing.

If you visit her profile, you will see her promoting other brands along with her own brand too.

These influencers can also collaborate with other influencers to promote their products. This way, they can market their brand, and the other influencers can earn through it.

Another example includes Mr. Beast gained rise to popularity through YouTube. Following his success on YouTube, his influence was also seen on other social media platforms.

Now, Mr. Beast has started his own chocolate brand, which he happily promotes on his social media platforms!

Often, you will find influencers collaborating with other popular influencers to market their products.

Coming back to Kylie Jenner, she collaborated with Kim Kardashian on their beauty product. Kim and Kylie came out with separate products that allowed both -Kim and Kylie’s brands to gain a spotlight.

5. Donations

Many influencers do not endorse sponsorships or charge money. Instead, they aim to help people in multiple ways.

This is where they can utilize donations and tips options. Influencers can add a custom link on their profile where people can send donations and tips.

Additional methods also include influencers selling products and receiving donations for the same.

One such example is, selling artwork and receiving tips and donations for it.

6. Brand Endorsements

Another common way for influencers to earn money is through brand ambassadors. It is a form of partnership where you get paid to promote the brand exclusively.

Brand ambassadors sign a contract for a specific time period.

They can promote the product through various platforms and methods during the partnership period.

You can decide how to charge—per post, salary, or one-time fee—depending on your preference.

Usually, influencers prefer charging a lump sum amount for their partnerships. Note here that as a brand ambassador, you will represent the brand. Therefore, influencers are also required to promote it offline or in the public eye.

7. Teaching And Consultations

Some influencers follow the quote, “If you are good at something, never do it for free.”

And if you have good knowledge about something, why not monetize it?

You can use your influence to educate your audience through video content, selling courses, consultations, or teachings.

If you are selling a course, you can charge a fee for it. You can also charge users for consultation calls.

During the consultation, your audience can book a time slot, and you will address their concerns and guide them through the right path following your niche.

8. Sales From Live Events

The final method that Influencers can make money is by generating sales from live events. Events can happen online or offline, and influencers can generate direct or indirect sales.

For instance, fashion influencers can conduct live sales for clothes. On the other hand, travel influencers can earn a commission for hotel bookings for a group of friends.

Now, for marketers, here are some factors to be considered when hiring an influencer.

How To Hire And Price Influencers In Your Budget?

The Instagram influencer industry alone is worth approximately $16.4 billion. The ROI on influencer marketing is significantly higher, which is why almost every brand is investing in it, expanding digital marketing to a new horizon.

Here are a few tips to remember when hiring an influencer.

1. Consider Their Followers And Engagement Rate

Sure, having a good follower count is perfect for reaching a wider audience. However, followers do not equal engagement. People with millions of followers can have a low 0.5% engagement rate. And if you are going to price an influencer based on the number of followers, this might not be a good idea.

You can use the money calculators I mentioned above to check their engagement rates. A good engagement rate usually starts from 2%.

Many brands prefer paying influencers through engagement. This payment structure is a win-win for both sides because you will pay based on the influencer’s engagement on their post. The average cost influencers are paid on engagements is $100 –$750 per 1,000 engagement

2. Check The Industry

Yet another crucial parameter when pricing an influencer is checking the niche. Every industry works in different ways, and so is the pricing for influencers.

For instance, fashion and beauty are common niches many people try to get into. The number of influencers is comparatively higher in these industries than in technical or farming niches.

The influencer rate will also vary depending on the niche’s competitiveness. The higher the competitor, the easier it is to negotiate.

3. Check For Their Previous Campaign Performance

Influencers who are constantly active and indulge in collaborations and promotions will have their previous campaign performance. Check how they have worked with other brands, the engagement they have given to the brand, the price they charge, the services offered, and more.

This will give you a clear understanding of what to expect.

4. Cross-Promotional Offers And Platform

Many influencers offer coss promotional collaboration. For example, they might promote your brand across different social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook.

Influencers with cross-promotional offers will charge more. If you want an influencer to promote across a single channel, it might cost you less than multiple platforms.

Additionally, influencers on Instagram and TikTok might charge you more than other platforms due to their high demand.

Additional considerations and tips for hiring and pricing influencers.

  • Check for their overall reputation.
  • Exclusivity
  • Agency of the influencer

Verdict: Influencers Can Make $195-$1900 Per Post

Influence marketing is expected to reach up to $18 billion by 2024. There is no fixed amount for influencer earnings.

Influencers make anywhere between $195 –$1900 per post. On the other hand, mega influencers and celebrities could earn up to $1 million+ per post.

The earnings of nano- and micro-influencers are comparatively lesser, at $80 –$90/month. With less earnings and higher competition, nano- and micro-influencers tend to keep their business as a side hustle until they are big enough.
